The Kediya - And Why It Feels So Special
There are clothes you simply wear, and then there are pieces that tell a story.
The Kediya is one of those. It is a traditional jacket from Kutch, Gujarat, known for its distinctive flared shape, adjustable front ties, and thoughtful zero-waste design - made for comfort and freedom of movement. Originally worn by pastoral communities for ease and practicality, it’s now cherished as a symbol of heritage and craftsmanship.
I’ve always wanted to own one - there’s something about its shape, the way it moves, and the thought that goes into making it that feels deeply special. It’s not just about how it looks; it’s about the history, craftsmanship, and spirit that make it meaningful.

One of the most fascinating things about it is its intricate pattern - so complex that even master tailors haven’t been able to replicate it. Each one feels completely original.

Originally made with intricate hand-embroidered details, we partnered with Dhebariya Rabari artisans to reimagine the Kediya in handwoven Kala cotton and hand block–printed fabrics, keeping its essence while simplifying it for everyday wear.

Kala cotton, an indigenous, rain-fed fiber from Kutch, is naturally organic, soft, and sturdy — sustainability in its truest form: local, mindful, and beautifully simple. The hand block prints add another layer of artistry with their imperfect charm and distinctive colors.
The result is a piece that’s character-rich and timeless - functional yet expressive, artistic yet easy to wear. It doesn’t need much styling; it stands out naturally for what it is. Don’t let the ties overwhelm you - once you get the hang of it, the Kediya is very simple and easy to wear.

For me, the Kediya feels like wearable art — something to hold on to, live in, and treasure for years. It embodies everything I love about craft: connection, creativity, and care.
If you love pieces that feel personal and tell a story, the Kediya might just speak to you.
